— Voter turnout Tuesday in Rock County fell between statewide and local predictions.

While the state predicted a 20 percent turnout, Rock County Clerk Lori Stottler thought it might be between 14 and 16 percent.

Actually, it was 18 percent in Rock County, according to Stottler.

Of the 101,100 registered voters in Rock County, 18,126 cast ballots, Stottler said.

She noted "no unusual events were reported."

A number of things can impact voter turnout Stottler said Monday. This includes schools being on spring break, coming off a recent presidential election, weather and uncontested races.

In Janesville, eight candidates competed for five seats on the Janesville School Board. Another 10 candidates, including write-in candidate Julie Backenkeller, were in the race for four spots on the Janesville City Council.

Of the unofficial 1,038 write-in votes for Janesville City Council, Stottler couldn't say today how many were for Julie Backenkeller.

"When the results come in electronically, it comes in as a total just counting how many people crossed the arrow," Stottler said.

Write-in totals won't be confirmed until Thursday's board of canvas, when Stottler said she would get an exact breakout for Backenkeller.

Walworth County Clerk Kimberly Bushey reported 16 percent of the county's 78,333 eligible voters went to the polls. That's lower than April 2008, when about 20 percent turn out, Bushey said.

Wow controlledchaos such accolades for Roger Anclam and Dan Delong! Can you tell me what they did for us again?

I do not agree with Mr. Brandenburg's closed door meetings in the least bit and I imagine in hindsight he would do things differently. I do know that he has ABSOLUTELY towed the line on taxes for the better part of the 15 years I have lived in Turtle Township. Many people were bitter over being annexed and if you knew the facts you would realize Jims hands were tied by the City having the right (from the DNR)to annex once a need for sewer arose. This was WAY beyond Jim's control.

I can tell you with 100% certainty that Roger Anclam is ALL about Roger Anclam that is unless you are in his circle.

Like Ike Kallepio before him I also believed in fighting the good fight for the greater good. I can tell you many stories with my own first hand knowledge, too many to list here where he completely dropped the ball or simply chose not to represent other "UAW" members outside of GM while happily cashing his check from their dues.

Guys like him learn what to say to working folk. If intelligent, they learn quickly how to avoid work and sweat. Very rarely do you get one that isn't corrupted by the sense of power and manipulation.

There again that is the illusion of politics, you get those that see their office or position as a badge earned to lead the "sheep."

But see the sheep are not always dumb. Just beat down by the realities of life.

By any accord let us hope for the best and put this bitter election behind us.

I read some very vain peoples comments about Jim Brandenberg reusing signs from his last election that stated re-elect Jim Brandenberg. Either way he was the Chairperson at one time and according to my english teacher this would be a correct use of "re-elect."

Anyone intelligent enough would realize that this was the way of Mr. Frugal himself. Enjoy your retirement Mr. Brandenberg!

How sad that only a 18% turnout in Rock County. It's hard to throw the incumbments out with such a small showing. Well We can get ready for the 2010 elections now.

I am so happy Brandenburg lost the race for the Town of Turtle Chairperson. The town will do much better and be a better place without him holding that office. There will be no more secret meetings, no more Brandenburg clique groups, no more being buddie buddie with Beloit and letting them annex us and selling us out, no more belittleing of people who dont agree with his crooked politic style. I know Roger Anclam will do a great job for Turtle and make it a better place to live and carry on Dan Delongs great leadership. "Dan you did a great job for us" Thank You and God Bless" and a big CONGRATULATIONS to Roger Anclam.
