WHITEWATER — The Whitewater School Board has offered the job of superintendent to a former Fort Atkinson resident and UW-Whitewater student.
Suzanne Zentner, 43, has been associate superintendent for teaching and learning in the Isaac School District in Phoenix since 2006.
The board did not take a formal vote but agreed informally to offer Zentner a contract, said school board President Charles Nass.
Salary and other details still need to be worked out, after which the board will vote on the contract, Nass said.
Zentner would start her new job July 1. She would replace Superintendent Leslie Steinhaus, who is resigning after seven years in the position.
Zentner grew up in Fort Atkinson, where she co-owned a fitness center at age 17. She attended UW-Whitewater, where she played tennis.
Zentner has served as a K-12 physical education teacher, a middle school principal and a central-office administrator. Her current job is in an inner-city K-8 school district of about 8,000 students, where 74 percent report Spanish as their primary language.
Zentner earned her bachelor's degree in physical education and health from UW-Whitewater in 1987. She holds a master's degree in education administration from UW-Madison, 1996, and a doctorate in educational leadership and policy analysis from UW-Madison, 2001.
Zentner has taught at Madison Area Technical College, the University of Phoenix and Arizona State University in Tempe.
