The tough economy brings a heightened awareness of Rock County's homeless population.

Shirley Van Horn, coordinator at House of Mercy Homeless Center, says as the economy affects each individual person, they realize the impact of poverty on people's lives. She says her facility is full ninety percent of the time. Right now, it's suprising for her that the center does not have a long waiting list.

Van Horn gives a talk to Mercy's Stride for Health program Tuesday morning. Tuesday evening, the Janesville school board will hear a presentation on homeless students attending Janesville schools.
