— A motorcycle passenger died Monday from injuries she suffered in an accident Saturday on the Interstate 90/39 ramp to Highway 14 East, according to the Wisconsin State Patrol.

A 42-year-old woman of Chicago was injured when the motorcycle David A. Sanchez, 41, of Chicago, was driving mistakenly exited the Interstate. When Sanchez braked and downshifted, the motorcycle lost traction and hit the ground, according to a news release from the state patrol.

Both were transported to Mercy Hospital for treatment. He was treated and released, according to a hospital spokeswoman today. She died Monday, according to the state patrol.

The Rock County Coroner's office today identified Valerie Sanchez as the woman who died from injuries suffered in the accident.

Neither rider wore a helmet, and alcohol was not involved, according to the state patrol.

Could a helmet saved her? Possible.

I wonder if he just slammed the rear brake and tried downshifting. I know quite a few guys who are scared to death from using the front brake thinking it will flip them over in an emergency stop.

If you re-read the article, it clearly states that the accident happened on Saturday, she passed away on Monday. The coroner's office and state patrol take a few days to release reports, so I'm sure the Gazette staff waited to post the news until everything was official and verified. I feel for this poor family who lost their loved one.

If she died on Saturday that makes this week old news~ Are you sure it was Saturday? Bye the way it does not state what injuries she died from, so don't assume A helmet would have saved her life..... It is still A very tragic story none the less, I'm sorry for her families loss.......

Maybe the helmet; not so much. Not loosing control would be a more sure bet.
