Beloit Police are investigating the source of cocaine that led to the apparent overdose of a four-year-old child Saturday evening.

Captain Bill Tyler says the child had been taken to the emergency department in a local hospital for a medical condition that required immediate attention. Tyler says once the hospital staff realized the child had ingested cocaine, which might be partially responsible for the condition, they contacted law enforcement. Tyler says there are many things that could be in the child's system, and cocaine is only one component of the child's medical condition. He says the cocaine is of the most concern to police.

No arrests have been made and Child Protective Services removed a younger child from the home.

The investigation is ongoing.
