The City of Janesville temporarily owns an indoor pool.

City Manager Eric Levitt told the City Council Monday the refrigeration system and a compressor need to be repaired at the city's ice arena. That means the ice rink has essentially melted, and a new part needs to be configured. After the Council meeting, Levitt told WCLO News the repairs could cost up to $10,000 and take at least four weeks to complete. He says the repairs are not included in the upgrades recently approved by the Council. Those upgrades were orginally estimated at $200,000. Now the project could cost $350,000. Levitt says the city has not received bids for the project and if the bids come in at more than $200,000 the Council could vote to reject all bids.

Levitt says updates about the condition of the ice will be posted at the arena.

Biggirl - Having a referendum every time any kind of spending issue comes up would really defeat the purpose of electing city council representatives. We elect those people to make decisions for us and if we don't like what they do, we vote them out of office. That's our referendum. If we had a public ballot every time any spending decision needed to be made, the wheels of the bus would move VERY slowly; not to mention the additional cost of holding more elections.
Plus, $350,000 may sound like a lot but it's a very small percentage of the total city budget.

Just as I don't agree with what has happened in our government of the past decade, but I am quite certain our president wasn't sitting in the white house creating a plan to destroy the country he also lives in. Mistakes are made, yes, they suck sometimes, but you have to have faith that when a unanimous decision is made pertaining to something as a whole, the outcome was expected to be positive. Our government officials are not the enemy. (granted some are, and are greedy, but they get what they deserve in the end).

BIGGIRL, that type of thinking really gets you nowhere. Why so quick to assume? I feel sorry for people who truly believe that their city council members sit and deliberately make decisions to exclude the residents. That is truly sad. I bet you are the one person that always has the worst luck too, right? That the world is against you? Lighten up and enjoy life. I can guarantee you, that the majority of decisions made are in the best interest of the city (or believed to be, even if that isn't what ends up happening....sabotage isn't the agenda).

I bet all those nay sayers about the alcoholic beverages went in there and broke it! J.K. This is too bad, I hope they can figure something out.

I'm still frustrated that such a huge project wasn't brought up as a referendum to the voters. If the voters passed it by even a minimal majority, it would, at least, show that there's public support for this project. I guess democracy is too inconvenient.

How does a ten thousand dollar repair up the total upgrade cost one hundred and fifty thousand? I never learned that math.

See the arena needed repairs with out a junior hockey program. The supporters arent completely idiots, we know when a repair is needed to a facility.
