Will Vikings court Favre?
MINNEAPOLIS Amid speculation that Brett Favre sought his release from the New York Jets so the quarterback could play for the Vikings in 2009, Favre’s agent told ESPN.com on Wednesday that his client has no plans to end his retirement.
Meanwhile, an NFL source said that if anything was going to happen between Favre and the Vikings, it wouldn’t unfold for “months” if at all.
“He’s retired, he doesn’t have any desire to come back, and that’s the way it is with Brett,” agent Bus Cook said. “He’s mowing his grass. He’s working on his farm. He enjoys that stuff.”
Cook said he made an initial request for Favre to be released after the season as just “the order of business,” adding “Brett wants to retire as a Packer and that’s just part of it.”
Favre, who was released from the Jets reserve/retired list Tuesday, issued a statement through the team that read: “Bus and Mike Tannenbaum (the Jets’ general manager) have been talking about this for a while. Nothing has changed. At this time, I am retired and have no intention of returning to football.”
Favre, who turns 40 in Otober, announced his retirement in February after 18 seasons.
He also retired the previous offseason but later decided he wanted to continue playing. After the Packers declined to take him back because they had committed to Aaron Rodgers as their quarterback, Favre set his sights on joining the Vikings in part because of his familiarity with coach Brad Childress and offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell.
However, Green Bay would not release Favre because it didn’t want him joining its archrival in the NFC North. The Packers also filed tampering charges against Minnesota, although NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell eventually cleared the Vikings.
After a lengthy soap opera, the Packers eventually traded Favre to the Jets for a third-round draft pick. Favre completed 343 of 522 passes for 3,472 yards with 22 touchdowns and 22 interceptions in 2008 as the Jets finished 9-7 and missed the playoffs. Favre was slowed by a torn right biceps as the Jets went 1-4 to end the season.
Favre was known to have talked to ESPN after the season about working for the all-sports network, but it’s not known if those talks went anywhere.
The Vikings, who also were tied into the Jay Cutler trade speculation before he was dealt to Chicago, are planning to enter training camp with Tarvaris Jackson battling Sage Rosenfels for the starting job. Cutler, by the way, also is represented by Cook.

I hope Farve comes back. I hope he plays for the vikings. I dont like the packers (packer country). In fact i hope if he should come back i hope he beats the packers not once but twice. Any day the packers lose is a good day!

If Favre wants to continue playing, he should. He's earned his free agency, so let him play for whatever team may want him.
soside4life, you sure are exposing your ignorance of football and Favre's career.

With the problems people are facing with the economy and pandemics. I think the Favre issue is on most people's backburner.

Yippee - more speculation and wavering for months on end. At least ESPN has it's lead story for several more months!
