— Incoming freshmen will find out what it means to be a Warhawk during “Club U-Dub-Dub” at UW-Whitewater.

Club U-Dub-Dub is the university’s fall freshman orientation program, aimed at making new students a part of the Warhawk culture as soon as they arrive on campus.

UW-Whitewater first offered the program last year, and the Office of Student Life and First Year Experience received hundreds of letters from students praising the unique event. Students said Club U-Dub-Dub helped them ease into college, make new friends and gain a sense of belonging, said Kim Moistner-Bartlett, assistant dean of student life and first year experience.

The positive response prompted the university to again offer the program and add activities, including a dance club—called “Club 1868”—at Perkins Stadium.

Students arrive at UW-Whitewater on Monday, Aug. 31.

Here is the Club U-Dub-Dub schedule:

Monday, Aug. 31

-- 9 a.m., Young Auditorium: “College: The Reason You’re Here,” presented by comedian and motivational speaker Michael Dean Ester.

-- 11:15 a.m., Warhawk Drive: “Hawkfest,” featuring dozens of student organizations and local businesses along with music, food and activities.

-- 1:15 p.m., Young Auditorium: “Making Peace with Passion,” presented by Bob Hall, founder of Learning to Live with Conflict.

-- 3:45 p.m., Young Auditorium: “Shots Fired—When Lightning Strikes,” featuring UW-Whitewater Police Chief Matt Kiederlen.

-- 7:15 p.m., Kachel Fieldhouse: “Connections—Class of 2013 style.”

-- 8 p.m., Warhawk Drive and Perkins Stadium: “R U Purple?,” the tradition-building event during which students paint the street purple and run out onto the football field.

Tuesday, Sept. 1

-- Noon, Young Auditorium: Convocation.

"Unique" is the wrong word here. Colleges across the country have been turning toward more immersive orientations for a few years now.
.
Heh, I said something similar last year:
