WHITEWATER Incoming freshmen will find out what it means to be a Warhawk during “Club U-Dub-Dub” at UW-Whitewater.
Club U-Dub-Dub is the university’s fall freshman orientation program, aimed at making new students a part of the Warhawk culture as soon as they arrive on campus.
UW-Whitewater first offered the program last year, and the Office of Student Life and First Year Experience received hundreds of letters from students praising the unique event. Students said Club U-Dub-Dub helped them ease into college, make new friends and gain a sense of belonging, said Kim Moistner-Bartlett, assistant dean of student life and first year experience.
The positive response prompted the university to again offer the program and add activities, including a dance club—called “Club 1868”—at Perkins Stadium.
Students arrive at UW-Whitewater on Monday, Aug. 31.
Here is the Club U-Dub-Dub schedule:
Monday, Aug. 31
-- 9 a.m., Young Auditorium: “College: The Reason You’re Here,” presented by comedian and motivational speaker Michael Dean Ester.
-- 11:15 a.m., Warhawk Drive: “Hawkfest,” featuring dozens of student organizations and local businesses along with music, food and activities.
-- 1:15 p.m., Young Auditorium: “Making Peace with Passion,” presented by Bob Hall, founder of Learning to Live with Conflict.
-- 3:45 p.m., Young Auditorium: “Shots Fired—When Lightning Strikes,” featuring UW-Whitewater Police Chief Matt Kiederlen.
-- 7:15 p.m., Kachel Fieldhouse: “Connections—Class of 2013 style.”
-- 8 p.m., Warhawk Drive and Perkins Stadium: “R U Purple?,” the tradition-building event during which students paint the street purple and run out onto the football field.
Tuesday, Sept. 1
-- Noon, Young Auditorium: Convocation.

"Unique" is the wrong word here. Colleges across the country have been turning toward more immersive orientations for a few years now.
