— There was no winner in the big Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference wrestling showdown between No. 5-ranked UW-Whitewater and No. 10 UW-Stevens Point, but there was no loser, either.

Whitewater wrestled Stevens Point to a 20-20 tie here Wednesday. Each team won five matches.

Can you say, “Kissing your sister?”

Whitewater coach Tim Fader was left to ponder the frustrating dual meet that featured eight ranked wrestlers. The Warhawks have not lost to a Division III opponent this season,

“I think it was one of those matches, if we beat them we’re looking at an undefeated conference dual meet season,” Fader said. “I do feel like we gave it away.’’

Tom Trieloff from Janesville Craig had to pin Andrew Dilworth in the final match at 157 pounds for the Warhawks to gain the victory, but Trieloff wrestled to a 14-6 major victory.

“He had the guy on his back, and if he could have gotten the fall, we would have won,’’ Fader said.

Whitewater lost the first three matches and did not recover.

Cedric Gibson (165) and Sean Pietrzyk (174) were decisioned, 14-6, and 15-5, respectively, and David Casper (184) was pinned in 5:43 to give Stevens Point a 14-0 lead.

Gibson, a freshman, wrestled No. 7-ranked Jake Wozniak (23-4) in place of No. 9-ranked senior Pat Nagel (24-6).

“I think we missed the opportunity to beat them in the first three matches,” Fader said. “We did not wrestle well. We looked pretty poor.’’

Fader and the Warhawks (14-3-1, 3-0-1 WIAC) will have to wait until the WIAC tournament on Feb. 22 at Oshkosh to get another shot at Stevens Point (15-3-1, 3-1-1).

“The whole night didn’t go as expected,” Fader said. “Very few things went like people thought, but it was entertaining.’’
