WCLO's Steve Benton reports on a state grant for a rural transportation study in Rock County.

— Janesville Transit Director, Dave Mumma, is very happy to see some grant money coming from the state, considering the request was in competition with many others.

Mumma says the $44,000 will be used to look at the feasibility of establishing commuter service between Janesville, Milton, and Whitewater, establishing an internal transit service in Milton, and determining whether the shared ride taxi service in Whitewater should be upgraded.

Mumma says the next step is to hire a consultant to conduct the study. He expects the results to be ready by about this time next year.

The grant money is part of some $2.4 million from the Supplemental Transportation Rural Assistance Program, released recently by Governor Jim Doyle.
