— Brett Frazier intended to eventually get involved with city government when he moved back to Milton last year, but he's entering the fray earlier than planned.

Frazier, 28, of 423 Rogers St., registered as a write-in candidate for Milton City Council on Wednesday after learning only two candidates—both of them incumbents—had registered for three open spots.

"I was going to go down and try to get caught up on things going on ...and then maybe look at running next year," he said. "But when I read that article and saw we have two people running for three, possibly four spots, I thought 'What the heck, I'll throw my hat in the ring.'"

Incumbents Dave Schumacher and Maxine Striegl are seeking re-election. Council President Sharon Rozelle chose not to run for re-election.

The council could have an additional open spot after the April election if member Tom Chesmore wins his bid for mayor against incumbent Nate Bruce.

Frazier, 28, grew up in Milton but moved away after high school. He works in Verona but moved back to Milton last year with his wife, who is expecting twins, and 2-year-old son.

"It was definitely a deliberate choice to move back to Milton," he said. "I love the city, and I love the people, and if I can help, I'll do it," he said.

Frazier works as a sales representative and also is a part-time actor. He has appeared with Theatre Unlimited and The Armory, including a stint as the flesh-eating plant in "Little Shop of Horrors."

He hopes to help the city find efficiencies, creative ways to manage expenses and projects that can be put on hold to help the city and residents get through the recession, he said.

"These are tough economic times, and I think we have to take a closer look maybe at things that have already been planned, things that are on the horizon," he said.

Brett will do a fine job in city politics if he is elected. Brett has "The Crew" at his back (ok, inside thing)...On a more serious note, I believe Brett has the willingness to listen and the willingness to be a reasonable voice among a council that is undeniably veteran. See you at the 10 year reunion meeting on the 22nd Brett!

Thank you, Brett, for posting that. You have a good head on you. You do not need to know all of the "right" answers, rather you need to make every attempt to make informed decisions in the interest of the Milton residents. I, for one, would have faith you would do that. I can appreciate someone that does not agree with me on all issues. Good luck, you will do fine.

This is Brett Frazier. I'm not sure if anyone's still posting here, but I admit that, while I've always had an interest in politics, I am not an expert yet on city government or the specific issues affecting Milton. What I do offer is a promise to educate myself to all the different viewpoints in Milton on all the issues and from there I will form my own opinions. I am not afraid to listen- I love to do it. I am not afraid to have an open mind and wait to form an opinion. Am I the most qualified person in Milton for this spot? Maybe not, I'll let the voters decide that. But I am the one who's willing to run. I appreciate the support that some people have shown, but I also appreciate Miltonalum's comments. I'm not sure who he or she is, but the viewpoints expressed are exactly the sort of critical input that's needed in Milton. Anyway, I just wanted to put my two cents in. I look forward to posting with you all again soon.

Regarding the flippant remarks by Miltonalum: http://gazettextra.com/weblogs/latest-ne...

You may be an acquaintance of Brett, but that does not mean you know anything about his political aspirations, knowledge base, or skills. I say acquaintance because if you were a friend you would not be so cruel. Everyone must start at the beginning. Edgerton's mayor is in his mid-20's. Vice-President Biden was the 5th youngest Senator ever when he decided to run in the early 70's. This week, Michael Bennet became the youngest Senator among the oldest Senate in history. My point? My point is how dare you chastise this young man for attempting to do what you thought about doing (Miltonalum's comment on _Milton Short A Candidate_,"what are the requirements for candidacy? anyone? gazette?", January 7, at 7:23 p.m) doing, were encouraged to do (http://gazettextra.com/weblogs/latest-ne...). You must see things differently looking out from your glass house. At least you called your own card correctly.

part 2
You stated, well, it speaks for itself:

"i wondered how long it would take for someone to say put my money where my mouth is and go register. I am not fluent enough with politics to put myself in a position to make decisions for this city and i recognize that, sure i could go fill out a form and register but would i be any good to my community in that position? no i havent spent the time researching or looking into it to make a rash decision based on a newspaper article. Yes i know brett and he is a decent person i suppose but he is definately NOT the person for this job, just as i am not. I am intelligent enough to recognize what my city needs and its not someone unqualified, in fact im dissappointed that the gazette came out with this article, we would be better off if the mayor had appointed someone qualified.."

After reading that I had three thoughts. First, you will make an excellent voter. Second, I would tend to give Brett the upper hand in your comparison of you and him based on my experiences with him while in college, his willingness to step up to run for this vacant seat, your rudeness, and your views. The third thought arose from reading all of your comments on various stories. In particular the one where you chide the Gazette for a spelling error ("oh yeah and gazette should use spellcheck before posting articles, its spelled snoWmobile, not snomobile." Posted on December 31 at 10:08 p.m.). I had to laugh. Again, you stand in your glass house lobbing bricks at others. The words "spell" and "check" are to be separated by a space. While so busy trying to point out the Gazette's mistake, you made your own. Also, how about the your post regarding Brett (quoted in prior paragraph)? Did you forget something? Spell check, caps on the start of a sentence, the pronoun "I" should be in caps, missing commas, missing apostrophes, double periods, unnecessary emphasis using CAPS, and run-on sentences plague your paragraph. No one cares about this in a blog, until you present yourself as "intelligent enough" to call out Brett and the Gazette. This man stepped up to run for a spot that you did not. You have share no evidence to back your defamatory comments about him other than we are to take your words indicating you "know him" and he is not right for this position. Please, other than the fact he is younger than you are, share with us why this well educated person should not be allowed to partake in local government. Caution, before you answer, read the rules for the Gazette's blogs. With that said, I will take your silence as affirmation that you will vote your way and let other people vote their choice based on the presence, or absence of facts rather insinuations.
