Lake Geneva Badger’s boys basketball team made it happen at the free-throw line Tuesday night.

Badger High had seven three-point goals, but the visiting Badger also made eight free throws in the fourth quarter to hold off Union Grove, 50-48, in a Southern Lakes Conference game.

Alex Gaugert had 11 points for Badger (4-6, 2-3), and Henri Lorenzi added 10. Nathan Radke scored 17 points for Union Grove (3-5, 1-4) before fouling out.

n Waterford 55, Wilmot 39—Joe Sturino made five three-point goals en route to a game-high 17 points as the Wolverines (6-3, 4-0) gained a half-game lead over idle Elkhorn (3-0) in the Southern Lakes.

The Wolverines play at Elkhorn in a first-place showdown Friday night.

Waterford, which trailed 23-22 at the half, put Wilmot (2-8, 2-2) away with a 17-7 third-quarter run. Beau Steffens backed up Sturino with 10 points.

n Waukesha North 51, Delavan-Darien 29—Tyler Butke scored 17 points, but Delavan-Darien’s offense just about ended there in a nonconference loss at Waukesha.

Nate Wood and Kevin Kuhtz led the way with 12 points apiece as the Northstars (6-4) dropped the Comets to 5-3 for the season.

Capitol North

Lakeside Lutheran High School romped to an 89-55 victory over Columbus in Capitol Conference boys basketball Tuesday.

The visiting Warriors (8-1, 2-0) hammered the winless Cardinals (0-8, 0-1) with nine three-point baskets. Lakeside led 50-34 at the half and ripped Columbus 28-8 in the third quarter for a 78-42 lead.

Nate Bauer scored a game-high 23 points, including four three-point goals for Lakeside. Justin Eternick added 17 points, Cole Strohbusch finished with 11, and Craig Wilke scored 10 for the Warriors.

Trailways South

Williams Bay High School’s boys basketball team won a Trailways South thriller Tuesday night.

Jack Slovick scored 31 points, and Ben Miller added 21 as the Bulldogs held on in overtime for a 73-70 victory.

The Bulldogs (3-4, 3-1) made nine three-point baskets, with Slovick finishing with five and Miller four.

Trey Shaw paced Deerfield (3-6, 3-2) with 23 points.

Badger South

Monroe High School’s boys basketball team worked overtime Tuesday night to gain the edge in the Badger South.

Mitch Tordoff scored 26 points, including four three-pointers, as the visiting Cheesemakers slipped past Madison Edgewood, 56-52.

The win gave Monroe (4-3) a 4-0 conference record and a half-game lead over idle Stoughton (3-0), while Edgewood (6-4, 3-2) missed a chance to move ahead of the two-time defending champion Cheesemakers.

Monroe also used 11 points from Bryan Tordiff, while Patrick Lagman led Edgewood with 18.

Nonconference

A 29-point fourth quarter carried South Beloit, Ill., to a nonconference win Tuesday night over Beloit Turner’s boys basketball team.

The unbeaten SoBos (11-0) got 35 points from Eric Peterson and Antonio Little in a 77-64 victory over the visiting Trojans.

The game was tied 48-48 after three quarters, but the Trojans (4-6) were outscored 29-16 in the fourth.

Mike Jacobs had 20 points for Turner, while Aaron Jones added 15.
