Five treated for carbon monoxide poisoning
JANESVILLE TOWNSHIP Two adults were kept for observation Sunday afternoon and later released from Mercy Hospital after a reported carbon monoxide poisoning.
A total of five people—three adults and two children—were taken to the hospital after emergency workers were called to 5915 N. Newville Road in Janesville Township at 9:46 a.m. Sunday, said Lt. Patrick Kilbane with the Janesville Fire Department.
The homeowners, Dave and Vicki Engler, were listed in stable condition Sunday afternoon, a spokeswoman there said. The other three people, Staci Hansen, 38, of Janesville and her two sons, 7 and 10, were treated and released.
The problem stemmed from an iced/plugged water-heater chimney, Kilbane said.
