Craig, Parker win Big Eight finales
Janesville Craig hammered Verona, 57-21, in the final Big Eight Conference dual wrestling match of the season Thursday to finish second in the dual-meet standings.
The Cougars (8-1) won despite using four freshmen and one first-time varsity wrestler due to several injuries.
“Usually Verona is pretty tough,” Craig coach Jeff Kaster said.
Siven Furseth stepped up a weight class and registered a pin at 119 to improve to 32-1. Chris Pierce (25-3) at 130 and Kyle Uppman (23-8) at 103 also earned victories.
Craig finished behind Sun Prairie (9-0) in the final dual standings. The Cardinals edged Beloit, 38-36, on Wednesday night.
The conference meet will be next Saturday, Feb. 7, at Beloit.

Parker (7-2) got pins from Adam Cavey, Kate Perkins, Brandon Zeilinger, Matt Houchin and Alex Craker. David Arndt, Evan Cavey, Brennan Casey-Schmidt and Josh Lindaas also won for the Vikings.
Adam Cavey finished 9-0 in the Big Eight at 103.
