— It's been a tough start to the Mike Grogan Classic Tournament for the Janesville American Legion baseball team.

After being shut down in the tournament opener against Beloit, Janesville struggled against pitcher Andy Kersten of the Janesville West Junior Legion team in a 4-2 loss at Riverside Park on Thursday night.

Kersten limited Janesville Legion to seven hits in the complete-game victory, and was aided by a game-ending double play with the tying runs on base.

"Andy pitched great," Janesville West coach Brian Martin said. "He got ahead of hitters for the most part, and our defense was solid behind him.

"I told our guys before the game that we weren't expected to win, but that doesn't mean we can't go out and play hard. And that's what they did."

Teran Kobs and Kersten had RBI singles in the third and fourth innings to give Janesville West (8-4) a 2-0 lead. Tanner Moe and Marcus Emerson made it 4-0 with RBI singles in the sixth.

Dylan Grall knocked in both Janesville Legion runs with a two-run single in the top of the seventh.

The Janesville Legion team will play the Janesville East Junior Legion team to conclude the Grogan Classic at 6:30 tonight at Riverside Park.
