Milton police officer Jason Casper has resigned, according to a news release from the Milton Police Department.

Casper, the department's liaison to the Milton School District, is under a criminal investigation after an 18-year-old woman claimed he inappropriately touched her while she was a student at Milton High School and sent her inappropriate text messages after she turned 18.

The Milton City Council accepted Casper's resignation in closed session Tuesday night. The criminal investigation continues, Chief Jerry Schuetz said.

I was aware of innappropriate behavior by Casper, but no one would investigate it. I've been denied filing a police report several times. It seems the fewer police records Milton has, the easier to promote itself as a safe town.

you know that a person is innocent until proven guilty. what's happening here? I know Jason and he is a kind and careing person and has a beautiful family. Don't you ever stop and think that his family and children may read what you write. Don't you know how that affects children? Jason is a wonderful person and has helped so many kids that may have gone down the wrong road. There are many times I am sure he's heard stories from kids that could shock us and he cares about each and eveyone of them. He cares if they are going down the wrong road and hopes he can change their way. Don't just judge a man before you have heard the facts. Who knows maybe he arrested someone this girl knows and this is their way of getting back. Who Knows! Yes you should be careful of what you blog. I'm not big on it but after reading these comments by some of you I feel you have nothing better to do than slander people. Just remember you could be there! Treat others as you would want to be treated!

Classic1220, by calling her a liar you ruin her credibility. If the charges turn out to be valid, then you have indeed libeled her. Calling her scandalous is defaming unless you can prove it. You never stated that was your own opinion of her, rather you toss that statement out with 100% speculation as your "facts". How silly would you look if she was enrolled in school by alternative methods, or had graduated early? There could be less obvious reasons she left school early if what you state is even true. My opinion of you is that you tend to stretch, skew, and selectively use information to paint the picture you want to paint. Your overzealous defense of a man many of us liked sounds, in my opinion, biased. Your attack of a female who, in my eyes is risking a lot in order to do what she feels is right, is childish. I give her credit for deciding to come forward with this. If she is wrong, she will face the music. If she is right, good for her! She made an adult decision many of us could not face. She risks her reputation, or what little you leave her with, to protect others from Jason. If what you say is true, that nobody cares what the bloggers have to say, then why not let the facts speak for themselves? Why toss in more speculation, more rumors, and more hearsay? Let the process work.

I hope regardless of how this turns out, that your statements that caused the Gazette to remove your comments are the basis for you being sued. You have no right to do that. At first I thought it was an ignorant use of the english language, but when it clicked with me, I had to adjust my comment here because as suspected, they removed it. They did so for good reason! She was a minor at the time as well as the VICTIM of an illegal act(s). She deserves the anonymity afforded her. The fact you know her name tells me that my "biased" statement is either true, or you are on the inside leaking information. I will bet on the fact you are a relative of Jason. I did not know this girls name, nor do most people in the community. I had no reason to. The only thing you were trying to do is tarnish or intimidate her. I hope your name is soon made known through the presumable defamation suit this girl, or her family bring against you.

I don't know if he's guilty or not and I personally know a teacher/coach in another school district who was accused of this sort of thing and it was a complete fabrication by the "victim." Fortunately once the investigation was completed they were vindicated though they no longer teach/coach in that school district. So I'm not going to pass judgement until the legal process is completed.

But the thought occured to me that his resignation is somewhat similar to a defendant in a criminal case who fails to take the stand and testify on his own behalf. He has every right to do so and the court will instruct the jury not to consider it in their deliberations. However many people will be of the opinion that if they were innocent they would demand to testify on their own behalf and failing to do so must be because they have something to hide. It may not be right but for some it's human nature.

It don't take much to prove if he sent inappropriate text messages and having dealt with this guy when I was a kid in Milton, I'm glad to see him go!!!

People do not give up 20 year careers in the middle of a recession just because. From my standpoint, if his "best option" was to choose resignation over truth and vindication, it speaks volumes. Assuming that role in a school, he knew there was a high probability of false accusations. Taking on this School Liaison role, was his plan to resign if he was ever falsely accused? These positions are known for being targets of spontaneous accusatory statements made in frustration, defense, or self preservation. Normally they are worked out, determined to be false, and the person cleared. The only time you see someone step down, or retreat, is when they are forced to. We all want to hear the details of the investigation when they are complete.

Classic1220, "Do not libel anyone. Libel is writing something false about someone that damages that person's reputation." your comments at 1:14 p.m. about the girl better be right, for your sake. If not, your suggestions that are meant to tarnish her could be backfire and make you sound foolish.

mrjj, The way a woman dresses is routinely cited as an incitement to rape, sexual assault, or unwanted advances. The only thing a woman's outfit should elicit is a compliment or a self-contained criticism. Regardless of the case pending against Mr. Casper, you would not like it if I said your mom, daughter, or wife were acted on based on their clothing choice. Rather than defending yourself by saying your family would not wear those clothes, take a step back and assume they did. That would be their choice. They still would not deserve to be raped, or assaulted physically or verbally.

If the girl is lying, then I hope they charge her for it. She is old enough to be charged and should be. She should also have to reimburse all the money that is being spent on this entire thing.

Mickie- Has anyone ever told you how annoying you are and ridiculous you sound, get a life already!! Do you have nothing better to do than sit here and accuse a man of being guilty when you dont even know him personally, get off him. Wait until the truth comes out and you get both sides of the story before you pass judgment! Just because you dont like him as a person get over yourself and find something else to do than sit here and tell everyone how much you hate someone!!
He resigned because that was the better option he had, it doesnt mean he is guilty by any means, so stop passing judgment on someone just because you dont care for someone, your pathetic and getting real old, nobody gives a flying hoot about what you have to say about him!!

I also know the Casper family very well, just because you've been accused of something doesn't mean that you are guilty. Look at some of the innocent people that go to prison for a crime that they didn't commit. And I thank god everyday that I have boys. Where in the hell are these parents when these girls are getting dressed for school? There have been girls that walk by my house in the morning for school and I just can't believe what little they have on. They should go back to the rules that I had in school, Shorts has to be down to the knees and no cleavage showing. People need to get a clue! Unless you know for sure that he is guilty you need to keep your mouths shut.

Has he even been charged with anything?

All I've read is there is a complaint and they are investigating...

If there is no charge, I think it's ridiculous....People are so judgmental!

I see that Janesville's little Nazi crew is once again proclaiming someone's guilt prior to any trial. Does "innocent until proven guilty" ring a fricking bell?

Its amazing how people just assume that he is guilty. Without knowing the facts, I think its best for people to keep their opinions to themselves. Jason is a very good and decent person and has a wonderful wife and two beautiful children. I think it was a very personal and difficult decision for him to resign and had nothing to do with him being quilty...
