WCLO's Steve Benton reports Beloit Riverfest officials are smoothing out a speed bump in the Idol contest.

RSS

— Beloit Riverfest Executive Director, Rod Beaudoin, says the Idol contest experienced a minor controversy during the preliminary judging.

Two judges voiced concerns when two contestants with higher scores didn't advance to the finals. Beaudoin says Idol official, Brittnay Wittnebel, who has musical experience, was given veto power to make sure the best acts moved to the finals and she used those powers.

Beaudoin says they need to do a better job of explaining the rules to contestants and judges and those changes will be made prior to next year's event.

He says the issue was brought before the Riverfest Board of Directors and they're comfortable with moving forward with the contest.

25 contestants are competing in the finals for prizes and the chance to perform, on stage, prior to the Beach Boys on Sunday night.
