Just dropping in: Bevell reportedly visits Favre
MINNEAPOLIS Vikings offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell visited Brett Favre in Hattiesburg, Miss., last week to watch him throw passes, but it still remains uncertain when the currently retired quarterback will make a decision on playing in Minnesota this season, according to an ESPN.com report Sunday night.
The Star Tribune in Minneapolis reported last week that Vikings athletic trainer Eric Sugarman had made a second trip to check on Favre’s progress from arthroscopic surgery on his throwing arm, but Bevell’s presence wasn’t known until Sunday evening. The Star Tribune confirmed Bevell also was on the trip.
That would make Bevell the first member of coach Brad Childress’ staff to visit Favre in Mississippi. Bevell watched Favre perform in a rigorous throwing session that included an estimated 100 passes, sources told ESPN.
Favre, according to those sources, felt his performance with the Oak Grove High School team was encouraging. Favre, however, also “warned the Vikings’ representatives that he might be forced to delay a decision on whether to play until just before the team opens training camp.”
The Vikings report to camp on July 29 in Mankato and begin practicing on July 31. Childress and Favre have both indicated that a decision needed to be made by the time camp opened. Favre again told Bevell and Sugarman that he wants to play for the Vikings but is still unable to commit because he wants to be completely confident he can play the entire season.
Favre’s 2008 season with the New York Jets was derailed by the arm injury.
Favre, who will turn 40 in October, underwent surgery in late May in which Dr. James Andrews released the partially torn biceps in his right arm. Favre’s rehab timetable was put at six to eight weeks. Star Tribune columnist Sid Hartman reported last week that a Vikings source who has been in contact with Favre recently reported that the surgery seven weeks ago was a success.
The ESPN story said that “Favre is proceeding cautiously because he remains somewhat concerned about the inconsistency of some throws and worries that he continues to have slight pain.”

* correction*...win their DIVISION, not conference
.
As I stated in my 1st posting. The Vikings will not be a great team because of Farve. it will be the potent running attack he has, and an upstart defense that carries them. An aging Favre will just add balance and leadership. He won't have to really carry anything. The Vikings will be good with or without him. Hopefully it will be with him, because that's when all the idiots out east will all go against the Vikings...As SOON as Favre signs with them! The media out there (and now really everywhere); despises him, and it's just one negative story after another...Which is GREAT for the contrarian bettor). You never go wrong fading the east coast chump $$$.

jvldss:
The super bowl appearance call is more of a long shot call that simply has a much better mathematical possibility then the odds given ( a "value" play). The real hammer wager is to simply take the Vikings to win the central. The division is simply atrocious. The Packers will be a 500 team at best, and the Bears are WAY over hyped. Detroit will be better (hard to be worse then 0-16) but obviously not a contender to win the division.
.
BTW;I am not a Vi"queen" fan. Simply a handicapper.
My big call last year was the Falcons to win over 4.5 games for the season, and to "take a shot" to win their conference at 12/1 odds as a huge value bet ;-)

Gonefishin, I dont think you should have said that to Colt. He is obviously mentally unstable and cant handle a comment like that. Use the old saying "kill em with kindness".

I respect everything Favre has done in the NFL. But this whole viking thing is atrocious. Just to get revenge he is willing to alienate hundreds of thousands of fans that have stuck by him for years? Terrible! He obviously doesnt care about spending time with his children like he claimed. All he cares about is himself. As much as I loved watching him and was proud that he was a packer, I no longer can watch him. Hes a vengeful old geezer.

Favre is a great quarterback when playing a west coast offense as was the case under Holmgren. However, after Holmgren the Packers switched to what was a modern Run and Shoot which is why Favre was picked off so much. I always find it sad when the talentless do nothings of this world complain and whine about those who have talent and do something with it.

No question that football is a team sport but, right or wrong, the quarterback gets way too much credit for the wins and should get equal credit for the losses when he fails to protect the ball in critical situations. No matter how many other excuses you want to use or how many fingers you want to point at others, take off your Favre colored glasses - 18 pics in 9 playoff games during the past decade is AWFUL!!!!!!!!! Nearly as bad as his 3-6 record during that span.
I enjoyed watching Favre play all those years and do respect everything he accomplished. It is just that he was/is a terrible playoff quarterback. Great quarterbacks play their best in the critical games, not their absolute worst.
I will LMAO when he melts down in the playoffs for the Queens, assuming he can even get them that far.

Colt45 - Get in line for your purple number 4 jersey because there is absolutely no way you are a "die hard Packer fan", not if you want another team to kick the Packer's butt. True fans support their team NO MATTER what, even if they trade away a once great aging prima dona QB to play a young promising quarterback who can make up his mind if he wants to play or not.
Sorry, I must have missed those playoff plays where Sherman and McCarthy inexplicably threw the ball to the other team 18 frickin' times! My bad.

Does anyone find it ironic that a coach who threw the ball as poorly as Darrell Bevell is now evaluating Favre's ability to throw the ball?

kiowanmohican: before betting the farm on a Vikings Suoerbowl appearance, you may want to review favre's playoff record the past 12 years since losing to Elway and the huge underdog Broncos in the superbowl. Yes, he has 3 mvps, a host of pro bowl appearances and is one of the greatest REGULAR SEASON winners and stat compilers of all time. But Queens fans need to review his playoff record the past 12 years, especially the games that ended the Packer season, before printing their Superbowl tickets.
Favre’s playoff record since ‘97 is 3-6, advancing past the divisional round only one time.
In the process, Favre threw 18 picks and 16 tds, compiling a 70.8 QB rating - far from great!.
1999 - Threw 2 picks against the 49ers in a loss.
2002 - Threw 6 picks against the Rams - enough said.
2003 - Threw 2 picks and lost a fumble when Vick and the Falcons gave Green Bay it’s first ever playoff loss at Lambeau.
2004 - Threw the pick against the Eagles that gave them field position for the game winning field goal.
2005 - Threw 4 picks against the Vikings - at home - Green bay’s second ever playoff loss at Lambeau.
2007 - Threw 2 picks against the Giants in the NFC Championship game, the second one setting up the Giants game winning field goal.
Great, beloved quarterback, sure, but flat out horrible at protecting the ball in big playoff games. And let’s not forget that Favre, well past his prime of the late 90’s, is another year older, coming off arm surgery, needs to learn a similar but new offense and terminology, must learn to play with new players, and he did not train at all in the off season unless you really count tossing the ball around with some Mississippi high schoolers...but then again, those high school receivers are probably every bit as talented as the rag-tag bunch he’ll be throwing to in purple jerseys.
This will not end well for Favre and the Queens. Favre has been a terrible playoff quarterback for over a decade now. Pardon me while I shed a tear for the poor Vikings.
Go Pack!

Many of the sportsbooks have wagering odds out now. Divisional odds, and odds to win the conference, and super bowl.
UNBELIEVABLY Minnesota has opened at +150 just to win the central. What a total gift that is! They should be a HEAVY favorite to win that horrific division; in the -200 or so area. They are also listed at most places at about 8/1 (+800-850)to win the NFC conference. Another great betting value. The reason the price is so good is because all the donkey $$$ out east will be heavily AGAINST Favre. NY now hates him, and the press just rips him to shreds at every opportunity they get. NY (and east coast gamblers) are literally the biggest bunch of chumps you'll ever come across. There is a reason the Gambino's, Lucazis's, ext ran an organized crime empire out there!
.
I'll call the Vikings in the super bowl. You heard it here 1st. Favre will not really "carry" them; he'll just provide balance and leadership. It will be all Adrian Peterson, and the defense that will make them a huge contender. Much the way an aging Elway won a super bowl years back with Terrell Davis and a great defense.
