Lower state aid forces cuts at Whitewater schools
WHITEWATER A significant reduction in state aid has forced the Whitewater School District to cut its staff, said Superintendent Leslie Steinhaus.
The reductions include a half-time elementary school band teacher, a half-time elementary school physical education teacher and a half-time elementary school gifted and talented teacher. The duties of high-school math, English and family and consumer education teachers also will be cut.
The district likely will eliminate a boys swimming coach, a freshman baseball coach and a High School Leadership Team member, Steinhaus said, as well as reduce the hours of the FFA adviser.
The school board Friday approved the reductions, which are equal to 2.06 full-time employees.
Steinhaus said the district also anticipates reductions among its support staff and non-union staff.

Maybe Hixson should show some leadership and offer an amendment to remove that $50,000 in pork (whoops, I mean...)park equipment from the Town of Beloit that interestingly found its way into the budget in the wee hours of the morning. I'm sure all of the school districts in the 43rd Assembly District could use $50,000.

Considering Rep. Hixson is voting to increase state spending on other programs, my guess is parents that use public education aren't too happy.

Luckily they didn't cut payments for the pool (over 100k/yr), and they continue to increase their investments in health insurance for their retired teachers, which is well over $100,000 for each retiree. Yes, it comes out of classroom budgets, as mentioned in the article, but in the end it's all for the kids!
