— The Janesville School Board expelled a middle school student Tuesday.

The student was accused of "getting into a physical altercation with another student," according to a district document.

The student is expelled through the end of the school year, which is today.

This brings to 34 the number of students expelled this school year, compared with 38 at this time last year.

This will be used for the future. The student now has an expulsion on his record and the district can use this if the student creates future problems.
.
In addition, it could simply be a message sender, by calling it an expulsion instead of a suspension it sends a stronger message.
.
For most students, an expulsion, for 1 year, semester, day or minute is going to mean more than a suspension.
.
Without knowing the details it is difficult to comment beyond that.

Well, perhaps the student now had to repeat his/her school year over again since being expelled during the school year? That'll learn 'em!

perhaps a kid who defended them self and had to be punished because of a zero tolerance rule, so a one day suspesnsion was given to satisfy that?

There must be some point behind this short expulsion. Can anyone explain it to me?
