BELOIT — When Riverfest shuts down next year, a major highway reconstruction project is slated to get underway.

Beloit Public Works director, Dave Botts, says highway 51 from Beloit College to the Henry Avenue intersection will be totally removed and replaced.

There will be infrastructure repairs as well before new concrete is poured.

Botts says the design of the road will be different this time around, says Botts. The road will be widened, where it runs parallel to Riverside Park, and a boulevard constructed. Parking now found along the park will be removed and new parking lots will be designed.

The cost of the project is around $2 million. Engineering and design work is being conducted this year.
