The Janesville School District might have to dip into its fund balance to balance its budget.

The school district's business services staff estimates the district could be over budget by as much as $600,000. They won't be sure until auditors review the budget in August. School officials say a number of variables led up to the situation. Health claims will be $300,000 more than anticipated and interest earnings will be $365,000 less than anticipated. The computer virus that led to an overhaul of the district's IT department is also costing the district $207,000. Finally, the cost of storing and moving furniture during high school renovations went over budget by about $75,000.

The school board will hear the details Tuesday.
