The first case of a new flu virus (2009 H1N1) has been identified in Rock county.
Health Officer Karen Cain says the patient recently returned from an infected area in Mexico, but isolated himself at home when first experiencing symptoms. Cain says public health nurses are investigating anyone the man had contact with. As a precaution, the health department is urging everyone to wash their hands frequently, cough or sneeze into a disposable tissue, and keep two weeks of food, water, and prescription drugs on hand. Cain also asks any children with symptoms be kept home from school.
County officials say they've ordered personal protective equipment for use by emergency and medical personnel.

Public health officials could actually do something by telling us how we can get the antiviral tamiflu, but instead, they'll tell us to keep ducktape in the house. All sounds very familiar.
