Janesville Craig softball 4-1 victory at Dawson Field over LaFollette
A four-run fifth inning sent Janesville Craig past visiting Madison La Follette, 4-1, in Big Eight Conference softball Tuesday afternoon.
The Cougars (8-5 in the Big Eight, 10-7 overall) were down, 1-0, when they put together their big inning.
Bailie Whittaker pitched a seven-hit complete game to earn the win.
“Bailey did what she has done all year, and our defense helped her out,” Craig coach Dan Bayreuther said.
Whitney Oliver singled to start the fifth inning. She took off on a pitch to Erica Mortensen, who bunted the ball. Oliver ran all the way to third on the play. Oliver scored when Kelly Moench hit a two-strike grounder to second, and Moench reached when the ball was bobbled.
Freshman Stephanie Perleberg singled to put runners on first and second, and Haley Bayreuther reach on a fielder’s choice and then stole second.
Audrey Freeman delivered a two-run single to put Craig ahead, 3-1, and Gabrielle Cassady finished the scoring with an RBI single.
La Follette pitcher Michelle Jones held the Cougars in check for most of the game.

n West 9, Parker 5—The Regents raced out to an early lead en route to the Big Eight Conference win.
Parker, despite a home run from Leah Champion, fell to 1-14 overall and 1-10 in the conference.
“You can’t commit six errors and expect to come back,” Parker first-year coach Jenni Seisser said.
“We’re just not mentally focused right now. I expect the physical errors from time to time, but the mental errors are simply a lack of focus.”
Maggie Tracey took the loss for the Vikings. The sophomore struck out nine, but
didn’t get any help from her defense. Parker commited six errors early as West jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the third inning.
Parker will host Verona in a Big Eight Conference game at Dawson Ball Field.
