WCLO's Steve Benton reports Janesville and Beloit are preparing their 2010 budgets with less state shared revenues.
ROCK COUNTY — The latest blow to the state's economy will have a direct impact on cities.
Governor Jim Doyle says due to lower than expected sales tax revenue, the amount of shared revenues sent out to cities will be cut by 5% across the board.
Beloit city manager, Larry Arft, says he's expecting a cut of about $800,000. He says the city budget is already a bare bones budget, so any additional cuts in the 2010 budget will be to services or personnel.
Janesville doesn't rely as heavily on shared revenues. Director of administrative services for Janesville, Jay Winzenz, says he's expecting a cut of between $250,000 to $300,000.
The city councils for both cities have already been briefed on the expected cuts and will work the losses into the 2010 budgets when they begin work on them this summer.
