Police still seeking more information on Traxler Park case
To help
Anyone who might have seen the man who approached a boy in Traxler Park about 5 p.m. Saturday is asked to call the Janesville Police Department at (608) 755-3100 or the Rock County 911 Center at (608) 757-2244.
JANESVILLE Police don't know what a man was thinking when he approached an 11-year-old boy in Traxler Park on Saturday and steered the boy toward his car.
In case the man was up to no good, however, police issued an alert late Saturday night, asking for help in finding the man.
Witnesses told police that the man approached an 11-year-old boy who was fishing with two other boys, ages 13 and 14, at about 5 p.m. Saturday.
The man asked the boy to come to his car, which was parked nearby, according to a news release, and the man placed his hand on the boy's back to "usher him in the direction of the car."
The 14-year-old intervened, telling the boy not to go with the man, said police Sgt. Anne Brophy.
At the same time, a "young couple" on bicycles approached, and police believe this caused the man to drive away.
The man is described as tall, thin, white, 50 to 60 years old, with gray hair and possibly some facial hair. He was driving a newer, mid-sized, four-door car, tan or gold in color.
Police had no description of clothing other than that he was wearing a hat.
Brophy said police don't know if this was an attempted assault or abduction.
"I guess when we find out who the individual is, hopefully, we'll find out what his purpose was," Brophy said.

MHm??
Suspicious to me??
YESSSS!!
No, adult should try an usher a child to there car. Talking to them is one thing .. but putting you hands on them an trying to usher them to your car is a totally different story..
This guy is a CREEPER!!
And for the fact that he went for the youngest of the children is another thingg.. easier to force into the car,, ?? Easier to hurt.. It's wrong and sick on so many levels.. <<NoBODY>> knows what this guy was thinking of.. WHAT SICK THINGS HE WANTED TO DO..
ljs64:
I think you are over reacting..
there is barely anything left in the city of Janesville for are kids to do.. To keep them out of trouble.. And your talking about closing all parks down???
One incident at park..
Doesn't mean that all parks are unsafe. && it doesnt mean that it will happen at every park...
KUDOS to the 14 year old boy..
He did a very big thing..
Who knows he could be considered a hero..
He could of just saved a life!
no body knows what would of happened if this man would have succeeded and got this child in his car...
It is also wierd that he got in the car an drove away when he saw the couple riding bikes?
there was something up right there!!
BUT LUCKILY NO ONE WAS HURT
:]

JCK... EXACTLY! I don't know how anyone can interpret his actions as innocent. Its mind-boggling to me that people can even consider that this man didn't intend to harm this child. He went after the youngest boy, why? Easier to physically assault perhaps?
.
ljs64... don't know how you jump to shutting all the parks down. Just keep the slime out of them! Sheesh!
.
And continue to teach our kids about Stranger Danger! Its real, it is happening everywhere, and perps have the means to get to our children. The Internet, cell phones, parks, malls, schools....

Please share with us all what you have done and continue to do to "protect the innocent?"

And if it really matters on how old any of us are, yes I was in this world in in 1964.

ljs64, I do not LIVE in fear! You're the one in a HOLE! What rock did YOU just scurry out from under?
.
Child enticement has been a factor for decades. In 1964, I was presented with a class on "strange danger". Were you even a "twinkle" in your daddy's eye that year? Probably not.
.
Do you have children of your own? Are you a child predator? Or do you simply prefer to see life through "rose colored glasses"? (John Conlee...)
.
When it comes to children, the innocent of mind and heart, I am the BIGGEST advocate of safety and contentment AND keeping predators from totally destroying their young, impressionable lives!
.
You go ahead and find a way to justify your moronic comments. I for one, will protect the innocent!

I really feel out of place here stating facts. Apparently the rules state that wild speculation on the basis of an uncorroborated statement is the order of the day. Carry on!

OMG people this could of been serious. It is not normal behavior for an adult to try to usher a child to their car if they don't know the child. I can't believe some people are sticking up for this creep! KUDOS to the 14 yr old.

janesvillean.. any adult with common sense and good intentions would not attempt to usher a child to his/her vehicle.
Just because there are less than 100 stranger abductions a year does not mean that those strangers have not made failed attempts at abduction in the past.
Kudos to the 14 yr old with the good sense to intervene. He may have saved a life.

oh wow extended supervision!he should have gone to prison and not been able to be around children like other sex offenders.i cant beleive someone could defend him, maybe if it were your child it happened to you would be a little harsher.

We should keep in mind that he was REPORTED to have done these things. The witnesses may not have understood what he said or did correctly, or may be *cough* deliberately misleading. Even in a normal person-to-person incident that the police handle you basically get a slightly different story from each person.
.
At this point saying he DID these things is premature. Even if he did them as reported we really don't have any idea WHY he did them.
.
There are barely more than 100 stranger abductions in the United States every year, compared with tens of thousands of family abductions. It just isn't common.

ljs64, If all he did was speak to the child I doubt there would be this reaction. But he took it a step further by asking the child to come to his car and placing his hands on the child as if to "usher" him to the car. That's where the problem comes in. And on top of it he leaves when the "young couple" arrives on the scene creating even more suspicion as to his intentions. This story just doesn't hang right for an adult who only wanted to speak to a child.

Seriously read this story again, is it just me or does it really stink? "In case the man was up to no good, however, police issued an alert late Saturday night, asking for help in finding the man."

What a great society we live. We all are now banned from speaking to children that are not ours?! I guess the City of Parks should close all the parks and build homes and businesses in those spaces. Ridiculous!
gmaof3: It is people like you that live in fear everyday vs. living the life we are blessed to have. "Any adult in their right mind would NEVER approach children they don't know."
Crawl back in your hole........And shut all parks down.

My biggest fear is one of my grandchildren being approached by someone who might harm them.
Any adult in their right mind would NEVER approach children they don't know. This is sick to me, and I hope they catch this guy. I don't think he would have a plausible excuse either!

Excellent point, janesvillian. Those are still concerned about the situation should act accordingly; i.e. keep their kids away from Frosty Freeze.

criticalthinking, the person you're thinking of went through the criminal justice system including extended supervision. I'd hardly call that "nothing". What did you have in mind, pitchforks and a bonfire?

This is not really surprising. When I was younger I was approached by a man in a car at riverside park in a similar situation. He wanted me to get in telling me it was hot and we could go to the dog house and get some food. I told him no, I liked to be outside when it was incredibly hot. He eventually left. I wonder, however, should we be surprised that this behavior is happening,I mean, in Janesville we have a convicted sex offender selling kids ice-cream (think frostee freeze) and yet we do nothing about it. Wow, Janesville, wow. Wow, Janesville, Wow.
