Rock-Green Realtors Association president Verna Saladino says numbers can be deceiving. If you look at 1st quarter sales and home price numbers in Rock County, you might agree.
Saladino says sales in Rock County from January through April are down 26.8%. In Janesville, sales are down 19%. The price of homes in Rock County are down 6.9%.
Saladino says her office has become busy over the last two months, and it may be due to a combination of things. She says it appears the economy is getting better, and it's a buyers market.
The Wisconsin Realtors Association reports the statewide median price in the first quarter was $137,500, which is 9.5% lower than the same time last year.

The body of the article does not support the headline. Also, I might supplement what this biased person says by talking with local assessors and looking into the statistics of foreclosed homes made available by county on the UW-Extension website. Why can't we have someone do a real story on this and talk to a professor of economics at UWW or UW Madison? Relatedly, I would be curious what the local governments have to say about the assessments of houses. Are they going to adjust them downward given that the real price of homes have gone down?
