Sun Prairie rules over Parker

SUN PRAIRIE — A late rally lifted the Sun Prairie High baseball team to a Big Eight Conference victory over Janesville Parker on Friday afternoon.

The Cardinals scored a run in the bottom of the fifth inning to tie the game, and added two more in the sixth en route to a 6-4 win.

The Vikings took the lead on back-to-back doubles from Tanner Moe and Ross Mauermann as part of a three-run fifth. But despite getting the tying runs on base in the seventh, Parker could not tie the game.

“The last few games we’ve been steadily improving,” Parker coach Brian Martin said. “We’re on our way up the hill and not going backwards.

“Our problem today was that Trent (Kobs) fell behind on the count on too many batters, and good hitting teams are going to take advantage of that. But I thought Trent threw pretty well, and our defense was pretty good behind him.”

Josh Rowles double in the sixth put the Cardinals (11-6, 9-5) ahead 5-4, and he scored on Mike Handel’s sacrifice fly.

Parker (6-12, 4-10) will play Jefferson in a nonconference doubleheader today.
