Parker baseball team drops two to Jefferson
JEFFERSON A lack of execution cost Janesville Parker’s baseball team Saturday afternoon.
The Vikings left 20 runners on base in two games in dropping a nonconference doubleheader to Jefferson. The Eagles (16-7) won the first game 3-2 in 10 innings and took the second game 6-4.
Parker (6-13) stranded 10 runners in losing the first game, including eight in scoring position.
“We’d get guys on with no outs, but then we’d hit a couple of pop-ups to take us right out of the inning,” a frustrated Parker coach Brian Martin said. “If we find a way to get a couple of those runners in, we win the game in seven innings.
“And in Game 2, we didn’t do ourselves any favors, either. We got 10 hits and they only got four, but three errors hurt us, along with seven walks.”
Bryan Poredos won the first game for Jefferson with a one-out double, while the Eagles raced out to a 5-1 lead en route to the victory in game two.
Michael Stellmacher picked up the victory in relief in game one, while Brandon Bare notched the win in game two.
Jake Welch had three hits for Parker in the opener, while Tyler Teubert went 2-for-3 in the second game, including an RBI double.
Parker will host crosstown rival Janesville Craig on Tuesday in a Big Eight Conference game at Riverside Park.
“We should’ve at least split today,” Martin said of the doubleheader loss. “But we’re starting to swing the batters better, and hopefully, that will continue. We just have to do a better job of executing and making the most of every opportunity we get.”
