It wasn’t pretty, but Craig High will take it.

The Cougars scored a 6-4 Big Eight Conference softball victory Tuesday over Madison East despite four errors.

“We’re happy to take a win,” Craig head coach Dan Bayreuther said. “We aren’t going to get any style points for this one.”

The Cougars grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first on an infield hit by Gabrielle Cassady and an RBI groundout by Jillynn Mortensen.

Cassady made it 3-0 in the third when she hit a booming triple and scored as the Purgolders threw the ball away trying to nail her at home plate.

Craig (12-9, 10-7) made it 5-2 in the fourth on a two-out RBI singles by Kelly Moench and Stephanie Perleberg. Audrey Feeman scored the final Craig run in the fifth, racing home on another Mortensen groundout.

Freeman and Cassady each went 3-for-3 for Craig.

The Cougars will close out their Big Eight season Thursday with a game at Madison West.
