The Janesville Patriotic Society proposes moving veterans monuments from the Corn Exchange downtown.
The request comes to the City Council as the Patriotic Society wraps up its annual Memorial Day ceremonies. The three monuments to be moved are located at the Corn Exchange, and the Patriotic Society would like to consolidate all monuments to Traxler Park. The move would help create a patriotic center at Traxler Park, reduce traffic disruptions caused by ceremonies downtown, and free up space at the Corn Exchange for use by the Downtown Development Alliance.
The society wants to work with the city to conduct soil tests, architectural plans and produce timelines and cost estimates. They also propose a series of public information meetings to explain the impact of the move.
