JANESVILLE — One lane of westbound Interstate 90/39 near Highway 26 was closed for more than five hours Wednesday morning after a tanker hauling 4,100 pounds of dairy cream flipped over at 3:15 a.m., according to a Wisconsin State Patrol press release.
The driver, David R. Jenkins, 55, of Nashville, Tenn., fell asleep at the wheel. The truck left the road, traveled into the median and overturn onto its driver's side, according to the release.
Jenkins was cited for reckless driving/endangering safety, according to the release.
The driver was extricated through the front window of the cab but was not hurt, said Capt. Bill McAfee of the fire department.
Enough cream leaked from the tanker to cover an area 10 feet by 100 feet, McAfee said.
McAfee said the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources might require the trucking company to clean up the spill.
