East Troy company announces third layoff
EAST TROY An East Troy company plans to lay off 14 employees by Aug. 15, the third time the company has laid off workers this year and the fourth occasion since December 2008.
Plymouth Tube Co., 2056 Young St., East Troy, plans to lay off 14 of 31 factory employees in its Trent facility because it has seen a dramatic decrease in orders since last year, said Susan Olsen, administrative manager.
The recent move brings the total number of laid off employees to about 50 percent of the more than 100 workers Plymouth Tube had in 2008.
The company’s Trent facility in East Troy welds and draws tubes, the process utilized to modify tubes of various shapes and sizes.
Olsen said Plymouth Tube will to continue to examine its customers’ demands and determine what markets the company doesn’t “want to be a part of.”
The Southeastern Wisconsin Workforce Development Board plans to provide response services to the affected employees.
