WCLO's Steve Benton reports on federal stimulus dollars for a study on effective ways to quit smoking.
ROCK COUNTY A federal grant amounting to $9-million will be used to help smokers find a way to quit.
The money will go toward a U.W. Center for Tobacco Research Study through Mercy Health System and Dean Medical Health System. About 2,000 smokers will participate in the program which will find ways to motivate smokers to quit, give participants coaching and nicotine replacement options, and instruct smokers how to take the medications properly.
The tests are slated to start next spring.
