Teen arrested in connection to barn fire

BELOIT TOWNSHIP — An arrest has been made in conjunction with a Sunday morning fire that destroyed a barn on South Paddock Road, according to a Town of Beloit Police Department press release.

Cody A. Hubank, 17, Beloit, was arrested on a charge of negligent handling of burning materials, the release said.

The investigation revealed Hubank entered the barn and lit a cigarette in the hayloft that ignited the hay, causing the barn to burn to the ground, the release said.

The Town of Beloit Fire Department was assisted in fighting the fire, for more than eight hours, by units from multiple agencies in surrounding communities.

The Town of Beloit Police Department does not expect any more arrests in the case.
