Janesville Craig High School’s boys soccer team turned in a strong effort, but Big Eight leader Madison West more than met the challenge Tuesday night.

The ninth-ranked Regents jumped to a 3-0 lead over the visiting Cougars in the first half and went on to a 5-0 victory as they boosted their record to 6-0 in the conference and 14-5 overall.

Alex Bernhardt got the first two goals for West.

“It was one of the better games we played, and we played as hard as we could,” Craig coach Charles Friedrich said. “But we were playing the top team in the Big Eight.”

The Cougars, 2-5 in the Big Eight and 7-9-1 overall, will be back in action Thursday with a home game against Verona.

I think you need to cut these guys some slack. Playing in the Big 8 Conference is no easy task. The Madison schools in a down year are among the best in the state. West may very well win state this year and Memorial is full of quality talent. It's easy to throw stones if you don't know or understand the whole picture. It is difficult for teams like Beloit Memorial, Janesville Parker and Janesville Craig to compete with kids who play soccer only 365 days of the year. Hopefully the communities will continue to progress to the point where club level, or at least some sort of league, is available to the players in the summer and winter.

alright listen, gonzalez we all know that holmes is an idiot who doesnt know how to make a statement without making an excuse, but dont think that our team is made up of a bunch of people like him, we all work hard and most of us keep up our grades who just want to go out and compete, BUT its kind of hard when we play these teams with a game plan that relies on us just trying to tie, the past couple games we have had zero offense intentionally, I'm not sayinig that its a good idea, it can work if used effectively unfortuantely it wont for us. we just want to go out and play good soccer so dont start blaming the players, our defense did a good job on tuesday night, by all rights this game should've been 15-0.

Are these box scores correct? They show only 1 save each for the goalies for West and Memorial meaning Craig and Parker each only had 1 shot on goal in each of their respective games. If anyone associated with either of these teams is reading this and wants to comment on why there was only 1 shot on goal I would enjoy reading it. What are the coaches coaching? Defense? That cannot be because in each of these games, it looks like our local teams were scored on at will.

Parker Coach- Is there any more excuses. First it was starters gone, now the weather, what next you had a head ache. Maybe time to work on bringing respectibility back to Parker boys soccer. When i played for Parker we didnt win but we were respectible. We played hard and earned the respect as a team that wouldnt quit. We never had issues with ineligibility. If you were a player that continuously had grade problems, you were not on Varsity. I feel bad for the kids who work the butts off and deal with the constant excuses of players out for ineligibility. Coach Holmes maybe build your team around STUDENT athletes that you can count on. Thats the way it was with the past coaches. But anyway I wouldnt want your job. Keep your head up but with your goals grounded
