Jets' early lead slips away
TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. The Janesville Jets watched a 3-0 lead melt away in the second period en route to a 5-4 loss to the host Traverse City North Stars in North American Hockey League play Friday night.
The Jets received goals from Gehrett Sargis and Chris Volonnino for a 2-0 first-period lead and Rui Encarnarcao scored at 1:25 of the second period to give Janesville a 3-0 lead.
Down but not out, the North Stars caught fire, scoring four straight goals in the second period for a 4-3 lead.
Traverse City cemented its lead with a fifth straight goal on a power play for a 5-3 lead. Cam Severson scored the final Jets goal on a power play with an assist from Janesville Parker graduate Ross Mauermann.
The North Stars will host the Jets at 6:30 tonight.
