The Green Bay Packers weren’t willing to offer running back Ahman Green the money he wanted when he became a free agent in 2007, but two years later they might have something for him.

Seeking a chance to return to the NFL after a failed relationship with the Houston Texans, Green, 32, worked out for Packers personnel officials Monday morning. Also taking part in the workout was veteran running back Dominic Rhodes, according to a source with access to the NFL’s transaction wire.

Neither Green, the second all-time leading rusher in Packers history with 7,103 yards, nor Rhodes was signed to a contract Monday, so it’s still up in the air whether the Packers will add a running back.

But having two veterans work out means the team has concerns about running back DeShawn Wynn’s ailing knee and whether he’ll be able to make it through the season.

mymaro - totally agree - nowaydog, it *doesn't* matter who runs the ball to an extent, especially when the pathetic o-line can't block their way out of a wet paper bag.

I have to wonder if Green is thinking he wants to retire a Packer. He was great in his day, I would love to have him back. But we have got to get people in there who can help to keep Rodgers off his backside. If we can't do that, we are screwed. I hope McCarthy and Thompson are sharpening up their resumes.
