— Janesville police were looking Monday for a man who early Monday morning attempted to rob the female clerk at Lions Quick Mart, 104 E. Racine St.

The would-be robber wore nylons over his face, Lt. Tim Hiers said.

The clerk yelled at him to get out, the man fled, and the clerk pulled the hold-up alarm.

Not knowing the alarm had been activated, the man came back to the store a short time later, "pointed at her, said something to the extent of ‘give it up' " then fled on foot, Hiers said.

No weapon was displayed, nobody got hurt and the man got nothing, Hiers said.

The man is in his late teens or early 20s, 5 feet 10 inches tall, 150 pounds. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans, Hiers said.

Anyone with information about this incident can call Janesville Area CrimeStoppers at (608) 756-3636 or the Janesville Police Department at (608) 755-3100.

I can't believe anyone in their right mind could somehow justify a robbery by calling out desperation as a reason. If all you can get is a minimum pay job, get two. There's jobs out there if you want to work. Working two minimum pay jobs is better than landing in jail for robbery.

The gazette needs to re-think it's policy of being politically correct by NOT publishing the persons race. What the H*** harm would be done by publishing his color? Geez !

Did this thief actually expect the clerk to comply simply because he was wearing nylons over his head and pointing at her? Something tells me he's a brick or two short of a full load.

I have to agree because Obama could have cut taxes, instead of bailing out GM which every American knows will never recover, and all his campaign donors along with the Unions.
** He could have opened those gates to the working class, and the economy would have snapped back.

As we continue to raise taxes, and drive employers away as the powers of Janesville seem determined to do we will see this increase.
I would think they will become bold soon.
I guess when you are losing your home, and can not pay the increasing Tax Levy you will do about anything to help your Family.

Oh please, don't start feeling sorry for this scumbag. Boo hoo, it wasn't his fault, the economy made him do it. He was probably desperate for drugs or alcohol.

Why put any description in the report if you are afraid of the race descriptor? It is not a sin to be of a particular physical color or sex or anything else! It is wrong however, to terrorize clerks, attempt to steal, or any other crime! So just report what it is...............Everytime these news articles are on the news site, it avoids race. Please correct me if I am wrong. 'Correctness' has nothing to do with it.

If it wasn't known, because of clothing, then point that out! Maybe someone could figure out who it is anyway.

He wore nylons over his face. Was he wearing gloves? Was he green? Pink? Fire engine red? or just florescent orange?
