WCLO's Steve Benton reports on praise for a new jobs initiative in Rock County

RSS

— The new "Rock County 5.0" initiative could help bring down the unemployment rate in the area.

Rock County Job Center, Executive Director, Bob Borremans, says there is nothing happening to boost jobs right now and that's why the unemployment rate is so high. Borremans says last week there were only "47 job orders in the six counties served by the center." He says only 11 of those were in Rock County.

Borremans says the situation is so bad that when an employer has a job opening, it's not posted for fear of being inundated with job applicants. He believes many employers are using non-traditional methods of recruiting employees including "word of mouth."
