WCLO's Steve Benton reports on the Beloit School District's 2009 / 2010 tax levy

— The Beloit School Board met in special session Thursday night and set the tax levy for the 2009 / 2010 school year.

It amounts to $8.20 per $1,000 assessed value. To the owner of an average $83,000 Beloit home, that's an increase of about $46.00 or $680.60 for the school year.

The board has yet to set the budget total, according to Superintendent Milt Thompson. He says they're trying to find a way to balance the budget through additional cuts, or by borrowing money from a special fund.
