More questions about placing Janesville skate park at Monterey

Monterey Park could likely be the site of Janesville's skate park if further review by city staff pans out.

Fern Streich and her husband, Roger, have worked for years to get a skate park built in Janesville.

Neighborhood Action Team President Margaret Delaney says the Fourth Ward has worked a long time for a positive activity like the skate park.

Council member Russ Steeber voted to deny building the skate park at Monterey Park.

The city will further review that location and if it won't work because of it's proximity to water, an elementary school, or geese, the city council could approve a new site.

Im sure noone will read this but ill post anyway because i feel so strongly about the skate park ...But here is a story anyway...

When I was in high school I established a "skate club" and our membership grew alot (from 4 to 22) but we got sick of having to beg and plead for places in school to meet up. So we decided to petition for a skate park. We sure were surprized by how many officials and citizens we got to sign it. Not only did they sign it because we showed how motivated we were but it kept us off the streets while doing our sport of choice. While I was in my senior year in high school it wasnt untill i graduated and moved away that it was built (go figure) but either way it was BUILT. Now that town, which is much smaller than janesville has a park for kids to use. Heck the town makes money by selling snacks and safety equipment rentals!!

I am not a kid, but i still enjoy skating at the closest local parks (beloit,ww,delevan, the pipe) when i have free time in the summer. I hope one day my kids will get to enjoy them if they decide to participate in any sport related to a skate park. But that wont happen if those in charge do not quit their excuse making and quit judging a book by its cover. Being a skater/biker/inliner doesnt make you a trouble maker, there is bad apples in every group. Having been there I know first hand how much skating/biking/inline means to those kids. Probally more then whatever sport or interest the council members had when they were young. BUILD IT< YOU WONT REGRET IT!!!!

I agree, build it now, so kids can enjoy it this summer! And just wait, there will be posters on here that are very negative about the placement, just ignore them or if you are like me, get mad and post back!

I still don't see what was wrong with the proposed Palmer site. It seems it has hit the NIMBY status. I agree with retired soldier though, build it already.

Put the skate park in and quit pulling at strings trying to unravel it! It gives kids something athletic to do and it is no worse than a playground, basketball courts or tennis courts. Put a fence around it to discourage ducks and geese from encroaching on it.
