WCLO's Stan Stricker reports on campaign to educate 911 callers

RSS

The Rock County Communications Center is in the midst of a public education campaign.

Concerns over the proper use of 911 have prompted a push to teach callers how to "Use It, Don't Abuse It". Communication Center officials say the dispatchers deal with more than 1000 calls a day, and it's important to know which are genuine emergencies. Common abuses of the system include callers to 911 asking about the weather or road conditions.

Officials say the time to use 911 if there's a direct physical threat to a person or property. Otherwise use the non-emergency number at 757-2244.
