The Janesville Transit System is considering a route to Milton and Whitewater, with a stop at the UW-Whitewater campus.
Dave Mumma, JTS Director, says UW-Whitewater students would pay $5 a semester for unlimited use of the service. The price would be included in their student fees. He's making a presenation to the UW-Whitewater Student Senate, which determines whether to allow the fee. Once UW-Whitewater is on board, the project needs approval from the City of Whitewater, the City of Milton, and the City of Janesville before it could come to fruition. Mumma says the earliest possible start date is September.
The potential route would not require new vehicles. Mumma says the current fleet has enough vehicles for the shuttle.

Once those UW-W students get a peek at the prices in Janesville vs. their Wal-mart (let alone on campus), they'll bring a lot MORE business to town. Also, quite a few UW-W students want to work in Janesville (more flexible retail options), but there may be some who can't get to town unless they have a car. Great idea for budget-minded students (and good for Janesville's economy, too). Hopefully this passes and the schedules will accommodate the students' needs.

Boy, would I have appreciated this when I was commuting to Whitewater from Janesville in the days of gas guzzling vehicles - plus a chance to study a little more for a test on the way instead of having to drive. Great thing if they can pull it off.

How often would it run, and for how long each day?
