WCLO's Stan Stricker reports on Town of Beloit's Safe Routes to School study

RSS

With fewer children walking to school, the Town of Beloit wants to ensure their safety is not forgotten.

Ryan Garcia, with the engineering firm R.H. Batterman and Company, is helping the town plan safer routes to school. Garcia says most kids walked or biked to school a generation ago, now most have a ride. He says, because of this, safe routes are sometime ignored. Garcia is asking adult volunteers to travel routes taken by children and make note of safety hazards.

The goal is to increase safety for children, as well as encourage more children to walk or bike to school.
