WCLO's Steve Benton reports Beloit Riverfest 2011 gets a green light

RSS

— The Beloit Riverfest board of directors agrees to put on another "scaled down" version of the annual event in 2011.

There were no nationally known musical groups on stage this year. All of the acts were local or regional, and all donated their time. Board president, Duane Drevdahl says most of the bands agreed to come back next year and do it again.

Bad weather in 2008 and 2009 put Riverfest in debt about $260,000. Drevdahl, says they were able to pay off a little more than 1/3 of that this year.

There will be a few minor changes for next year. With a reconfigured highway 51, the carnival may not be able to set up on the pavement. Drevdahl says they'll also probably scale back on the number of vendors in the food court area.
