WCLO's Stan Stricker reports on Basics Cooperative effort to promote benefits of eating locally grown produce

RSS

A Janesville food cooperative is promoting an eat local campaign.

Amber Vaughn with Basics Cooperative says the eat local challenge is being coordinated through co-ops across the country. Vaughn says the goal is to get people to choose something locally grown for four out of five meals. She says there's plenty of choices including gardens and farmers markets. She says it's a good exercise in taking back control of what you put in your mouth, considering fixings for the average meal travels about 1500 miles before reaching the dinner table. She says the effort could also be a boost to the local economy.

The eat local challenge runs through September 15th. Helpful hints can be found at Basics Cooperative.
