Arson possible in Kellogg Avenue fire
JANESVILLE Police think a fire that destroyed a storage building on the city's south side early Sunday morning might be arson.
The building, which housed seven trash bins and was also used for storage, was located between 2010 and 2016 Kellogg Ave. Flames were shooting from the rafters when police arrived around 12:23 a.m. Sunday, according to a police report.
The report states investigators could not immediately determine whether the cause was arson or negligent handling of smoking materials.
The report has no indication of any suspect, said police Sgt. Mark Ratzlaff.
The building, valued at $50,000, belonged to Sun Vista Properties. The report said it was likely a total loss.
