The future may be a little brighter for the Rock County housing market.

Rock-Green Realtors Association President Paula Carrier says the 4th quarter sales numbers for single family homes were up about 23% in 2009 compared to 2008, and sales prices were also up almost 5%. She's especially pleased with the increase in sales prices, because of the large number of foreclosure and short sale properties. December sales numbers are even better. They are up almost 10% from the previous year.

Carrier does admit sales of other types of properties continue to be flat.

One realtor "says" sales are up and prices are up. Sounds like anecdotal evidence to me. I would rather use legitimate sources like the S&P housing index. Also, 4th quarter sales were stimulated by temporary tax incentives that will quickly dry up. It's going to get a lot worse in 2010.
