JANESVILLE — The Janesville Police Department’s seizure of 95 live marijuana plants Wednesday might have been bigger news if the department hadn’t seized 147 plants the day before.
Still, the bust at 421 N. Oakhill Ave. on Wednesday was “very big,” Sgt. Jim Holford said.
Though the two operations were discovered at about the same time, the department hasn’t found a link between them, Holford said.
“They were both very sophisticated grow operations,” he said.
Carlos R. Galvan, 46, the resident of 421 N. Oakhill Ave., was arrested Wednesday on charges of manufacturing or delivering more than 50 marijuana plants, maintaining a drug trafficking place and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to a department news release.
The case started after police discovered a marijuana plant Sunday in a car registered to Galvan, the release says.
“We knew he had access to live plants, but we didn’t know where the plants were coming from,” Holford said.
Galvan was put in Rock County Jail on a probation hold, and police received tips from the community that led them to believe Galvan was growing the plants in his home, Holford said.
Police executed a search warrant at 6 p.m. Wednesday. They found 95 live plants and 45 plants that had died from lack of care, the release says. The live plants could have produced 47.5 pounds of marijuana at an estimated street value of $48,000.
“The basement was divided into two separate growing areas that had extensive lighting and exhaust systems in place,” the release says. “The attic of the residence had been converted into a drying area. This was accessed by using a built-in ladder that had been installed in the pantry.”
Garvin was still in jail on the probation hold when police made the bust, the release says. No one was found in the house.

thekid-only you can make a pee wee reference in a blog about a bust! LOL :) I would like to state that I am glad this dirty operation got taken down considering that was probably poor quality product and now it's kept off the streets ! :D
I still think everyone should spend more time making health care universal for all and maybe when that happens we will finally be able to start legalizing for medicinal use. It'd be kind of hard for big pharma to lobby congress for their "drug war" if they lose their insane profits by being reigned in and regulated by our government for the benefit of universal healthcare. please go to www.singlepayeraction.org to find some ways you can get involved, learn some facts, and make your own decision as to what is the best way for us, our children and the next 7 generations. I know i'm sort of hanging on a limb here, but it's all connected. Think about it, people get all hyped up about this being on news, it distracts them from the robbery banks are committing on the people, it distracts from real hard crimes like extortion, bribery, secret back room deals in our local government all the way up to the senate seat. People need to start being more pro active and learn how politics run and start standing up for what they believe in or else nothing will change. Regardless of empty campaign slogans. I wish one day everyone who posts on here daily or often during the week would meet up and decide what it is exactly they want to change and then do something about it. Then we'd stop having these cycles of arguments while we go back to our day to day grind.

i've been a member of this website for over 2 years now and granted i do not smoke pot anymore i agree 100% and always have with thekid. It gets soooooooo old when someone makes a smart *** comment on every other article saying "oooh wheres the kid on this one" WHO CARES!! He has every right to post what is on his mind, as well as you do. I think as the kid stated in a previous post something along the lines of "you people are afraid of pot because you WERE TOLD TO BE" and THAT IS THE TRUTH!!!!!
